Aquaculturists face a growing problem of decreasing water quality. Poor water quality is a major stress to all aquatic animals. Stresses are additive and increase the susceptibility of the animals to disease while decreasing their growth rate and feed conversion efficiency.
Ammonia and phosphorus are two of the most common problems. Even before lethal levels are reached excessive ammonia stresses animals. This, in turn, reduces feed conversion efficiency and increases susceptibility to diseases and reduced oxygen.
Increased loading of phosphorus is of concern because it accelerates the growth of algae and higher plants. This can be problem both within and after the aquaculture production facility.
To say that antibiotics and bactericidal products are essential is to admit that adequate water quality is not being maintained. It is much easier to prevent diseases than to try to cure them. Disinfectants may help avoid some diseases, but they treat only symptoms and not the cause of the problems.

The ECOPROBIOTICS® added to your lake digest both the solid and soluble pollution. The water clearing microorganisms in ECOPROBIOTICS® use these wastes as foods for their growth. The scientific literature shows that bacteria can take up nutrients faster and grow more rapidly than algae and aquatic weeds; this results in the bacteria out competing algae and weeds for available food. The by products of this natural water clearing process are water, carbon dioxide and bacterial biomass, which is rich in protein. In a lake with fish or invertebrates such as snails or crayfish there is very little accumulation of bacteria, because the animals eat the microbial biomass. Thus, pollutants are transformed by ECOPROBIOTICS® into beneficial invertebrates and fishes. The phosphorous, which is the major cause of excessive amounts of algae and aquatic weeds, is channeled into the faunal food web and thus less available to the algae. The ECOPROBIOTICS® can grow faster than pathogens leaving little niche space available for the undesirable strains. This is called competitive exclusion.

EVERY PRODUCTION, of Bacta Pur® products, is analyzed and cleared for shipment ONLY after passing all performance tests and being CERTIFIED PATHOGEN FREE using techniques from the food industry. While regulations apply only to Salmonella sp., the QA/QC program goes way beyond legal requirements. Microbial Aquaculture
What does it mean?
Microbial aquaculture is the culture of naturally occurring and beneficial microorganisms such as the Bacta-Pur® communities. Aquaculturists provide water, food and specific physico-chemical conditions to grow aquatic organisms even single celled microscopic algae; we do the same thing for other microorganisms, such as bacteria. Any life form provided with an environment meeting their growth and reproductive requirements will flourish. Bacta-Pur® cultures are not altered, genetically modified (GMOs) nor deliberately mutated. They simply grow as a community that includes various populations of beneficial microorganisms capable of biodegrading a wide range of pollutants. Bacta-Pur® production is microbial aquaculture.
The microbial aquaculture to grow the Bacta-Pur® cultures is not biotechnology. Many countries and international organizations have defined biotechnology as relating to genetic engineering or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and or altering natural life forms
Historically, in the 80's, biotechnology was common language for any new approach with any life forms; commercially growing communities of naturally occurring microorganisms was part of microbial ecology, which may have been considered a new approach. However, by the end of the 90's, the definition became clear that only genetically altered or engineered organisms, which obviously does not apply to Bacta- Pur® cultures, were part of the biotechnology industry.

The Bacta-Pur® H2000 is a liquid suspension of balanced community of natural, beneficial and non-pathogenic microorganisms which have been selected for their synergistic ability to biodegrade organic refractory compounds, from phenols, and oils to polycyclic aromatics and halogenated compounds. Bacta Pur® H2000 is used for a variety of purposes within the areas of industrial wastewater & leachate treatment, and water and soil bioremediation.
The quality assurance and control program assures a high visual cell count (10¹¹per mL), the presence of specific strains and only Class I (non-pathogenic) bacteria.
The optimal results can be achieved with pre conditioning of the product prior to addition. The purpose of preconditioning is to force bacteria to recognize site-specific refractory pollutants, such as hydrocarbons. Basically during the pre activation with nutrients and aeration the bacteria are brought in contact with targeted substrate to be biodegraded. Through this technique the bacteria are forced to recognize specific substrate and to develop the internal enzymes necessary for its degradation.
